NEW PLATFORM EMERGES FOR BUSINESS WOMEN.

After 26 years of operating in the city, the Townsville Business Women’s Network is making way for a new entity.

The ‘Townsville Business Women’s Circle’ opens for interim memberships to June 2016 tomorrow with Committee members excited to finally be launching.

Interim Chair and Owner of Access Therapy Joanna Murray said the team had been working very hard behind the scenes to understand what it was that business women actually wanted in 2015.

“We have been looking into what models work well elsewhere but mostly we have been talking with women about where the gaps are how we could add the most value in this region.

“Some very clear themes have emerged from those conversations and we are looking to address those areas,” she said.

“Practical workplace insights and workshops is where we will start. Women are saying they want to attend events where they can walk away with new skills or knowledge that they can apply straight away.

“We have scheduled monthly quick bite educational series which we will run for half an hour using local experts to skill up individuals in different areas of their business.

“From social media, to sponsorship leveraging, policy development and photography workshops there will be something for anyone who has half an hour.”

The committee have also heard from women wanting to connect more with their regional colleagues with the group planning to work with Cairns, the Burdekin and communities out west to facilitate connections in 2016.

Three former presidents of The Townsville Businesswomen’s Network, Michelle Morton, Jayne Arlett and Debbie Guides, approached each of the women to form the new group after long running TBWN president Penelope Sullivan retired.

“There has been a period where the TBWN has not been able to deliver what it ideally wanted to for working women and we felt the time was right to make room for a new entity,” Ms Morton said.

“For 26 years the TBWN delivered some amazing outcomes for our community and we are excited to see what this new team of women will achieve as the Townsville Business Women’s Circle.”

Two information events are planned for women to come along and find out about the TBWC and register their interest for membership and events.

The first will be a coffee catch up at Vitti Café on the corner of Gregory and Mitchell streets in North Ward from 0800am on December 04 with the second an after work event at the Crown on Palmer on December 08 from 5-630pm.
